Careful electrics for a careful city.

Consumer unit upgrades, full and partial rewires, EICR inspection, EV charger installation, solar and battery, LED lighting - across Canterbury and the CT1–CT4 Downland villages. BS 7671:2018 Amendment 2:2022 to the letter. Listed-property nuance where it matters. Fixed-price quotes, no day-rate creep.

What I do

Six services. Every one done to BS 7671 Amendment 2.

Specified for Canterbury's mixed Victorian, Edwardian, mid-C20th and new-build stock, the listed properties around the Cathedral precincts, and the CT4 rural Downland villages where sub-mains and outbuilding circuits get their own conversation.

Consumer unit upgrade

Wylex plug-in boards and pre-A2 17th-Ed boards out, dual-RCD or all-RCBO metal-enclosed consumer units in, Type 2 SPD fitted as standard. Half-day install once the DNO cut the tails.

Rewire scope & timing

EICR inspection

Full periodic inspection and testing to BS 7671. Landlord EICRs to the private-rented mandate, homebuyer surveys, insurance-driven inspections. Honest C1/C2/C3 coding and no invented C2s.

EICR scope & pricing

EV charger install

OZEV-approved 7kW home chargers on a dedicated circuit, Type A or Type B RCD, DNO notification handled. Smart-charger compliant with the EV Smart Charge Points Regs 2021.

Why local matters

Canterbury is not generic-electrician territory.

Canterbury holds around 1,800 listed buildings and 12 conservation areas administered by Canterbury City Council. The Cathedral precincts, Northgate, St Dunstan's, King's Mile and Bridge village all sit inside protected townscape where a chase-cut into a lath-and-plaster wall or a surface-mount conduit run on a listed elevation is the difference between a compliant job and a Listed Building Consent enforcement letter.

Outside the walls, the stock is mostly Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Wincheap and St Dunstan's, mid-C20th semis and chalet bungalows in Hales Place and Thanington, and larger period stock and converted farms in the CT4 Downland villages of Chartham, Bridge and Bekesbourne. Blean has the ancient woodland substrate on the north-west edge where chalk seams make earth-rod driving unpredictable. Each of those brings its own sub-mains, its own DNO connection routing, and its own reasonable approach to first-fix cable containment.

Listed & conservation-area work

Careful conduit, careful conversation.

Around 1,800 listed buildings in Canterbury alone. Listed Building Consent from Canterbury City Council is needed for anything that alters the character of a listed elevation - including new surface-mount conduit runs on a front face, socket-outlet penetrations of a listed skirting, or downlight cuts through a listed ceiling. On these jobs I quote for the LBC application timeline as part of the scope.

Standards

Four things you can hold me to.

Compliance certificate on every notifiable job.

Every consumer unit, every new circuit, every bathroom job gets a Building Regulations compliance certificate posted to you inside a fortnight of completion, via Competent Person self-certification. That is the paperwork your future buyer's solicitor will ask for.

£

Fixed price, quoted in advance.

Once I have the property details and the scope, the price is fixed. If the job runs longer than I expected - bad first-fix cable, awkward sub-main routing - that is my problem, not yours. No day-rate creep, no scope-drift surprises.

Photos and readings on completion.

Every job leaves you with a photo record of what was done, and every notifiable job leaves you with the test readings. Useful for landlord portfolios, useful for handovers to future owners, and useful for the next EICR five years down the line.

10

10-year workmanship guarantee.

Every installation and fix is covered for ten years. If something I fitted fails through poor workmanship, I come back and put it right at no charge.

Where I work

Canterbury CT1 to the CT4 Downland villages.

CT1 inside and around the city walls, CT2 for the northern and western suburbs including St Dunstan's, Hales Place and Blean, CT3 for Sturry and the Ash road villages, CT4 for the southern Downland including Chartham, Bridge and Bekesbourne. Same trade, four different property types, one consistent standard.

Canterbury City & Wincheap

The listed core inside the walls plus the Wincheap corridor south-west. Careful containment on protected elevations, single-phase 100A supply as standard, and consumer unit upgrades on the many pre-A2 boards still installed on Victorian terraces.

St Dunstan's, Hales Place & Blean

The CT2 north-west arc. Landlord EICR territory, plus the older Hales Place suburban stock where original fuseboards are almost always non-compliant, and the Blean woodland-fringe cottages with sub-main routing to think about.

Chartham, Bridge & the CT4 villages

The Stour and Nailbourne valley villages south of the city. Period cottages, converted farms and outbuilding circuits done properly with SWA cabling and RCBO protection on the sub-main.
