Canterbury has around 1,800 listed buildings and 12 conservation areas administered by Canterbury City Council. That means Listed Building Consent is a real part of the electrical work-scope on any front-facing job inside the walls, and Article 4 directions on some frontages catch even permitted-development-scale changes. The Cathedral precincts are the tightest of these, but St Dunstan's, Northgate, Wincheap and Bridge all carry protected townscape too.
Outside the protected zones, the stock is a wide mix. Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Wincheap and St Dunstan's, mid-C20th semis and chalet bungalows in Hales Place and Thanington, larger period stock and converted farms in Chartham, Bridge and the CT4 Downland villages, and new-build enclaves at Thanington Park and the Sturry expansion. The private-rented sector is dense on the university-adjacent streets - St Dunstan's, Wincheap and the Old Dover Road area - so landlord EICRs and consumer unit upgrades to bring pre-A2 boards up to current standard are a steady beat of the workload.
DNO in the area is UK Power Networks. G98 (small-scale solar under 3.68kW single-phase per phase) is notify-after-install; G99 (larger PV, battery-inverter combinations, EV chargers on some domestic supplies) is notify-before-install. I file both routes as standard so you never see the paperwork.
